Part I Based on the podcast complete with the missing words:
1. Engineers have launched a huge _______________ collection device to gather plastic material floating in the Pacific Ocean between California and Hawaii.
2. The organization Ocean Cleanup created the collection device. The group’s _______________ is Boyan Slat, a 24-year-old inventor from the Netherlands.
3. Slat was just 16 years old when he was moved to clean up the oceans. He had been on a __________ __________ in the Mediterranean Sea and saw more plastic bags than fish. The problem has only grown since.
4. “The plastic is really __________________ and it doesn’t go away by itself and the time to act is now,” Slat said.
5. Last Saturday, a ship pulling the pipe-shaped floating barrier left San Francisco for the Garbage Patch. The barrier, called the floater, is 600 meters across. Attached to it is a ________________________ that hangs three meters down in the water.
6. Shipping containers will hold all the plastic gathered, including bottles and fishing equipment. Slat said the containers are expected to be back on land within a year. Then the plastic will be __________________.
7. “We at the Ocean Conservancy are highly _________________________but we hope it works,” he said. “The ocean needs all the help it can get.”
8. Leonard also raised concerns that animals might be captured by the __________________ that will hang below the surface.
9. “I’m the first to _______________this has never done before and that it is important to collect plastic on land and __________ ___________ _____________ on plastic entering into the ocean, but I also think humanity can do more than one thing at a time to _________________this problem,” Slat said.

Engineers have launched a device to collect plastic garbage in the ocean between California and Hawai. It´s bigger than the state of Texas.
The founder is Boyan Slat, a 24 years old inventor.
He has been in the Scuba Dive in the Mediterranean, and he says that there is more plastic than fish. He also says that the plastic is really persistent.
He discovered that the plastic that he has found is from the 60´s and 70´s.
A ship pulling the pipe-shaped floating barrier left San francisco. The barrier is 600 meters long. Attached to it i has a skirt of 3 meters long.
The screen is made for the garbage, it doesn´t hurt the animals.
This system has a solar source.
He also said that he expect that the sheep comes back in a year. After tath all the plastic is going to be recycled.
The team, when the device comes back, is going to study how does it work in hard conditions, likes waves.
This project as received 35.000.000$ in donations. They hope to release at least 60 sheeps for 2020.
He said that his goal is to remove 50% of the garbage of the great Pacific in 5 years.
The floating barriers are supposed to survive in extreme weather conditions for a long time, so it is estimated that in 20 years, this device will have collected about 90% of the garbage patch.
The chief of a nonprofit activist group named Ocean Conservancy expressed his concern about the device, he said the device would be useless if the people kept throwing garbage to the ocean, about 8 million metric tons of plastic go in the ocean every year. He also talked about an International Costal Cleanup on September 15, in which about 1 million volunteers will help cleaning the beaches. His mayor concern about the device it’s that the animals might get captured or trapped in the net that hangs beneath the device.
In response to his concerns about the animals, Boyan Slat said he hopes this doesn’t happened and that the device would work as a big boat and that the animals wouldn’t get trapped in it, but to be sure, he was going to send a boat with an experienced marine biologist to make sure this doesn’t happen.
