  4. I disagree with the definition of an Internet troll. For what I have seen, trolling can be more than just posting harmful comments in social media. I have read about some instances in which a big group of people got organized to obtain and spread the personal information of someone. There are also examples of harassment in social media that ended in the trolls sending pizzas to the person's address to make them waste money. However, there are ways of trolling that are harmless, for example, in videogames in which you can have social interactions or with funny images or references. Lately the term "trolling" got a bad reputation, but in its beginnings it was inoffensive.

    1. I agree with Michelle here. One example of being a troll is to Rickroll someone. It's one of the most precious and oldest jokes of the modern internet and at least it makes you laught. Others are not so funny for the victim, for example, jumpscares and so on.

  5. I can certainly say that the definition of internet trolls has changed over the years. In addition, this definition also depends of the individuals or groups that inhabit this media. Most young people see it as posting harmless phrases and sending jokes. There are even cases of trolls that seek justice for an unfair situation, although these ones I would not consider as trolls (it always depends of the situation and your position). This doesn't mean that there aren't people who seek to harm and call themselves trolls. There're many people of all ages who believe that they're being "trolls" or that their actions are "funny" and "harmless". At least for me, these people are just plain bad people without needing to label them as trolls.

    1. I agree with Graciela’s point. Internet trolls are not just the people who do jokes on general or disrespectful comments. The internet has trolls that seeks “justice” for example, when a company does a bad thing or post something that is consider bad, people tend to do trolling to that company websites or profiles to make a valid point, that the company is making a bad post or action.

  7. In my case, I think the comments about "internet trolls" are ok, however I consider the information to be incomplete as the definition of an internet trolls may be more than what was mentioned above. Everything is directly related to the context and the main intention, which is to annoy, but it can be a non-offensive joke, or it can end up creating a serious case that requires legal attention. All of us in any case can become an internet troll in small scale, giving a mocking comment to a friend or a stranger, but always maintaining respect, however, I agree that after a certain weight in the jokes, they become unacceptable behavior.
At this point, the important thing is to take into account the ipinion of the affected person, realize it and not harm it any more, or in case of an external case support it.

    1. I totally agree with this comment. The real fact is that we all could be bullies sometimes in relation to the other one's perspective, but we should always try to be an empathetic person and avoid saying something that will affect the other side. My freedom ends where the other person's freedom begins.

  8. I totally disagree with the definition of an “internet trolls”. Internet trolls definition has changed a lot since they started to appear. We could say that the correct definition is “people who makes jokes that can be harmful to other people” but this definition doesn’t include the trolls of disinformation that nowadays are being more than harmful to society. Also, we have the cases of trolls that tracks your IP with a lot of methods only to scare the people, there was a few cases of this in countries like JP, and because of that Japanese citizens don’t use their real names or photos. In the other hand we can consider a person who put a joke video like the famous “Rick roll” videos as a troll, but we can’t consider this person as a harmful troll.

    1. Yes, Rodrigo is right with his comment. Not everything is as harmless as some of us are used to. There is a case of a famous Youtuber that people use his teenage photo as a meme. The problem isn't that the memes affect the Youtuber, the fact is that some older people believe what the memes say and they harrassed the person in the photo (they don't know he is a Youtuber and that the memes are recurrent jokes of the comments he says in his videos). Sometimes people need to do a little research before believing everything posted on Facebook.

    2. I agree with Graciela here. There are many pages that make fun of some topic or even a group of people (sometimes with dark humor), but just as a joke, and those who disagree with these opinions get offended easily because they don't get the sarcasm of the jokes and the context that the comments are not intended to be serious. For some people is difficult to get the tone of what they hear in a video, even less of something written. I don't get why everybody get offended so quickly. Just because you don't like someone's point of view or sense of humor that doesn't give you the right attack them unless their actions are harming you in some way. Everybody has their ideas; you can't change that for the better or worse. If you find that someone's opinion is toxic, you don't have to get involved with them or pay attention to their comments.

  12. well, in part I agree with the definition of "Internet troll" because there are a lot of fake profiles or "shitposting" pages that only write comments inciting violence and making people, especially older people, get angry by something that they wrote intentionally and specifically to annoy or disrespect someone. but on the other hand, everyone has freedom of expression to share with the world their ideas and beliefs. Every person must be mature and critical enough to don't feel insulted or displeased easily by someone else´s opinion. In brief, the troll is troll only if you let it anger you and join his game giving it attention.

    1. I disagree with this comment. Even though people should be mature and critical, there should be limits for the writer. People have different sensibility and different points of view. Yes, a constructive comment is always welcome, but if the comment is harmful, the writer should be punished. It is not a reader’s responsibility to face those comments and still be happy.

    2. I disagree with this commentary. I think that most people who do Internet Trolling only have bad intentions, and although we have freedom of expression, there is always a limit. Trolling shouldn't be normalized because depending on the magnitude of that or the person who receives it can generate great damage.

  13. I partially agree with the definition of "internet trolls". Internet troll meaning is mainly related to attracting people's attention through the internet. The fact of getting that attention from people may be focus to both constructive and destructive aspects. Technology evolution has advanced so much, that I disagree with the fact that concept is pigeonholed only to harmful actions, because many experts in the area have access to take action based on the desired purpose, either good or bad.
On the other hand, the Internet has given people the power of anonymity. Within a physical social environment, without the masks provided by the internet, people interact face to face, and take responsibility for their words and actions, but since it is not possible to identify many of these trolls through the internet, it becomes a free open space for violence and discrimination. This is why promoting strong cyber laws plays an important role on the road to making the virtual world a safer space for everyone. The Internet is a powerful tool, and with a powerful tool comes great responsibility, both individually and collectively.

    1. I agree with Genesis's idea about the "mask" that the internet gives and makes it impossible to find someone who makes others suffer for no reason.

    2. I agree with Génesis here, internet trolling should be controled by the authorities nowadays. It's unfair some people is being attacked or bullied by others under the anonymity mask, whom I consider as cowards, because they are not taking responsability of their actions and words, when actually, everything we do has a consequence.
I think internet has evolved through the time in many ways we didn't expect, becoming in a powerful tool as Genesis said, wich means it needs to be more controled in order to prevent unfortunate situations as bullying, pranks, harrasment and other activities done by internet trolls.

  14. I disagree with the explanation about internet troll, what I've heard or seen about internet troll they are people who prank others on internet it can be social networks or online games, they do it for fun or make others laugh. For me what you are describing in the video is a person who just want to be mean with others more like a internet bully.

    1. I agree with this opinion because cultural differences can lead to different interpretations for the same term. Here in Costa Rica, in our casual vocabulary, we use the word "troll", and the anglicism "trollear" for pranks made in the virtual media, but also in the personal interactions.
But for some other cultures, internet trolls are the people described in the video, who enjoy been mean to others with the intention of making them feel bad about themselves.
But this differences of interpratation can lead to misunderstandings. Even someone could try to justify their bad attitude by saying it is just a prank, when it is not. So I think it is also important to evaluate the context in which the word "troll" is expressed, and also understand that something that is just fun for some people, could be hurtful to others.

      Eliminar
  15. I don't really agree with the definition of "Internet Trolls", because a troll person just wants to create controversy about certain issues and get people upset without getting into the problem, this kind of people only do it because they enjoy seeing people angry or fighting. From my point of view the video talked more about "Cyber-bullying" because it mentions that these people like to make people feel bad with their negative comments or taunts about what that person uploaded to their social networks, said or did.
On many occasions I have seen troll accounts created by people just to make people believe that "X" person has a lot of influence over a group of people or that the ideas of "Y" person are better at making people doubt whether it is really true or not.
In any case this shouldn't happen, because making fun of people shouldn't be a fad or something similar, this should be eradicated completely, now most social networks have a security and privacy control that pretends to help people to report these false accounts generated just to troll people.

    1. I do not share the idea of my colleague Gabriela Monge, because the definition of Internet trolls covers much more than what is mentioned in the video, it is something that is very relevant today and covers many ways to offend, discriminate or make people feel sad, so cyber bullying to me is a very common action of internet trolls.
But I do share with my colleague that this cannot happen and that it must be completely eradicated, with the help of social networks and the authorities in charge of cyber problems and very important with the complaints of people affected by this crime.

    3. I agree with Gabriela in this comment, since I also think that a troll only wants to spend a good time annoying while in the video there is more talk of a much more negative intention about the people they are intervening, producing feelings and thoughts negative, so I also think it shouldn't happen. I even think that the joke type troll should not happen either, since we cannot really know how sensitive the other person is, or how affected he will be after all this topic.
I should also mention that the fact that social networks are now having greater security and privacy seems to me an excellent idea, since this type of behavior can be controlled in this way.

      Eliminar
  16. Regarding the definition, I believe that it is incomplete. The damage of the trolls has evolved over time. At first, it was only referred to messages or comments, but later, to the person who made then.

In addition; the intention with which it is carried out can make them simply harmless or something serious, and the time keep going becoming it cyberbullying.

Trolls can also appear in private groups to smear the prestige or security that it presents, which is why it is not necessarily in an open network or in a forum itself. The main intention of this is to generate a negative response, be provocative, irritating or confusing for the people, and it depends on the intention of the troll, whether it is to publish provocative, irrelevant or off topic messages.

  17. I agree that the purpose of internet trolls is to create controversy or upset people in the social networks, however, i think trolling is more than just posting offensive comments. There are a lot of harmful activities that can be done by internet trolls like pranks, fake websites, fake news and others. I think that the idea of "freedom of expression" has been twisted by internet trolls. Everyone has freedom of post and say their own opinion, but this doesn't mean you can attack, bully or prank another person in the internet. Because of internet trolling, now we need to be extremely careful with everything we see in our social media, and also lear how to ignore some comments that don't deserve our attention.

    1. I agree with Mariana Monge, the only purpouse of an internet troll is to upset people in orden to make them fall into their wicked game. People have made the wrong idea about "Freedom of expresion" they think that they can literally say anything without regulations. I hope this kind of behaviors started to been punish in order to make internet society a better place of the rational people. Also we must understand that there is a huge difference between been fun and been a irrational and harmful person. I completly support any way to punish this kind of unacceptable conduct.

    2. I agree with Mariana about trolling isn´t just a offensive posting, the internet troll´s actions have implications in the real world. Now days, the people is very involve in the virtual environment, it means that those harmful comments directly affect people feelings and become very relevant for the victims and the community around them. Even if you are expressing your opinion, the respect must be present every moment, because the liberty of each person ends when the others ones rights stars. So, I believe that trolling must be classify as emotional aggression. If one of the purpose of the authorities is to protect the rights of the people, thus they need to updated the laws in way to extend that protection to internet due is part of our new reality, now more that never; during the pandemic.

  18. My personal opinion on the subject of Internet trolls is that more and more problems are generated due to this, because we depend more and more on the Internet in our daily life. This can be seen with the amount of social networks that a person has, where we also constantly publish information about our lives. These constant posts help internet trolls have more material to affect people. And as the video mentions, they are people who do not aim to contribute to the discussion, but rather their goal is to annoy people or make them angry.
I also share the opinion with what was mentioned in the video about the consequences that offensive comments can have on people, since in many cases the insults are very strong and can mentally affect the offended person. Another aspect that the video mentions is Why do trolls post such harmful messages? And I had not thought about this question, but I also share the answer mentioned in the video, because they are people who feel free to say what they think without being attacked by the offended people.

It’s not good to know that you may receive hate, but I think it’s up to us to decide if we will care or not. Sometimes, these people simply do it just to "spend time" and do not measure the scope and consequences of what they do or say. It is true, we are free to express ourselves, but I think that respect is also a fundamental part in all of this, and these of actions really bothers me, because I think that if you do not have something good to contribute , it is better not to say anything. 27. I do not totally agree with that look on the “Internet troll” definition, because I think it is a term that encompasses a more broad range of the people’s behavior on the web, not only some harsh commentaries in social networks but also many other actions that people take on online communities are also deemed as troll. From targeting certain people in a community to outright stalking certain person’s life and every movement, they do on the internet, just to make threats. The term has been used to describe many people and many not so dangerous groups like, for example people that make rude jokes and pranks on people but do not target anyone specifically, and, in the online gaming community is often used to describe people that want to lose a match on purpose. However, some groups use it as a general word to describe anyone that post a different opinion than their own and the other way around. 34. I agree with the definition of Internet trolls, however, the definition could be broader, depending on each person's perspective, someone could be a troller or a person who tells the truth. If we see comments from conversations, in publications, on different social networks or other similar forms of communication, you can find people who tell truths through these means of communication. Many are disguised as anonymous characters, who if they were not, would not express their ideas. Therefore, I think that despite the fact that many are trolls with joking intentions, there are some people who do this activity to say something important and not just to make a joke. Funny and fake news are regularly viral, and this is a good way to express ideas.

  37. People some times take advantage of online anonymity to post things that they wouldn't normally tell to people face to face. Also their is a loss of communication when it comes to text compared to spoken speech or talking face to face. Tone and body language is lost and it can lead to misunderstandings.

    1. I agree with Ignacio, for me on the internet people disguise themselves as they want and can lead to great problems, the internet not only lends itself to appear as "trolls", but also networks with a black background of evil.

  38. Talking about the term "Troll" in daily life or on the internet for me is the same, the difference is that with the internet you reach many more people and its repercussion can be more serious because on the internet many disguise themselves as "trolls" and they get into very delicate subjects, for example, there have been cases of people disguised by these names, who have reached vulnerable populations such as children and have encouraged them to commit suicide because they have led them to believe that they are not worth nothing and that the best thing is to die. In general, in my opinion, people can become very cruel with the comments or jokes that can be made to another person and it is so difficult not to be immersed in the internet that it is impossible not to have seen some serious case where crimes are committed and even crimes.

    1. I completely agree with Judith, the internet has many advantages, but it also has its disadvantages, so you have to think very carefully before publishing anything that says what is published never disappears. Another disadvantage of the internet is the excessive power that people have acquired, that is, now everyone believes that they can criticize, judge and even criticize everything, which often has fatal consequences such as inciting suicides so you have to think about this always before to comment.

    2. I agree with this comment because its true that everyday there are more younger people in social medias without supervision and they can be very vulnerable and get affected by this "trolls" and as Judith says, even commit suicide.

  39. Beyond the opinion of whether or not the term "internet trolls" for this type of action is correct. I think the most important thing is to focus on how horrible it is to make hurtful pranks and even worse to do them anonymously. I believe that today all people have come to believe that they have the power to judge everything as if the digital age had given them that power. However, many times these comments hurt and even produce suicides. So I consider that you have to think more about what "simple opinions" could cause in the other person before giving your opinion.

  40. My opinion of of internet trolls, are incomplete, because, its important to know that it can encompasses another types trolls.Remember that the trolling isn’t hard to spot, even if you’re not sure what to look for, so, you can find it in a lot o web sites.
Its true that you can find a lot of troll comments on social media, like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and another type of this platoforms. On every comment thread there are users who say something like “this video sucks,” “you don’t know what you’re talking about,” referring to the number of people who have disliked that video, and you can see a lot of hate in these type of comments, and probably, the people who writte this, has some social and psychological problems.

  41. I agree with the fact that people have the right to express themselves and say what they feel through their social networks, but there is always a limit. In a way, at some point we all become trolls by making mocking comments in a video or mocking a friend in a post, but this is innocent. There are people who like to tease, offend, and even harass others, and these are the real Internet trolls. There are people who are very sensitive, and this type of comment can affect them a lot, but it is always important to try to ignore and not pay attention, although there are times when it can no longer be ignored. This is serious, beyond offenses, these people are capable of everything, they have access to our information, our name, family and even where we live, so it can be very dangerous if we are not careful. Given this, it is really important to take care of the personal information that we publish, since we do not know how it can be used.

    1. I agree with Keilah, some people have the misconception of what a troll is and may just callout someone that's just making an innocent joke or giving their own opinion. Of course the main difference is the intention of the comment, if it is to just give an opinion or a joke or if it is to harm the other person.

  42. Regarding what is discussed in the video, I think the concept of internet trolls is wider, today we see them on any social media and we are so used to them that we see it as normal. But being an internet troll is more than posting a hurtful comment, for me it is the fact of posting a comment knowing that it can generate hate. The comment can be directed to a specific person or situation. I think that today society lives with many pressures and stress and they put all their thoughts on their social medias without measuring the consequences, it is true that there is free expression, but we must always be respectful, even more on the internet that can reach so many people so easily.

  43. I agree with the concept of internet troll that's mentioned in the video. However, many people have the incorrect definition of what a troll is. Most of the time someone is called a troll when they are just giving an unpopular opinion and try to defend their position and this might be taken as if they were trying to provoque a discussion. A real troll on the other side, has the intention, from the beggining, to create discussion and insult people, trying to make them feel less for their own enjoyment as a way of escaping their own problems. Of course there's the ones that take it to the extreme and do their best to make someones life impossible. Trolls have been around for a long time now, and as mentioned on the video, some are easily uncovered, however, the ones with the most severe intentions usually tend to use ways of hiding their identity such as vpns and virtual machines and make it almost impossible to locate them.

  45. I agree with the definition of what an internet troll is, as I am a person that spends a lot of time on the internet. What

does a troll have to bring to the table? Just hate. Nowadays every single social network or blogpage has the typical

guy or girl that only comes up to comment something really useless to the topic or targets somebody for whatever

reason just with the intention of making fun of hating on that person. Still, I think the word troll has more weight

than how people use it on the daily basis. Now, you get on instagram and the person who says the lamest joke

about something or somebody is called a troll. Actual trolls are people that try to hard to hurt someone or upset

them through the screen, someone that actually tries to make harm. That's what makes me sick, since the net is

filled with this type of energy for the reason of being able to remain anonymous and not having to show who is the

real person, making them feel some kind of powerful or to have the right of unleashing their insecurity and hate to

someone you have never met or known which I believe is just an evil and cruel thing. On the other side, as this

behaviour has grown, people gets to call everybody a troll, which I believe is wrong because a troll is someone

taking the act of making fun of something to the next level, even to the point of someone taking legal action to this

situation, and also the unfortunate lives that are lost due tho this people harrassing on them. And I really believe a

movement against this trolls has to begin to erradicate them.
