Lab 3 | Catalina Salas & Jose Pablo Marín Bullfighting is unethical Bullfighting is a spectacle or sport that consists in a “fight” between a bull and a Matador, where the bull is baited and usually killed in a bullring for entertainment. It is considered a tradition in Spain, Portugal, southern France and some Latin American countries. Nowadays, this practice is a controversial theme and it’s considered unethical by many. One point of view in favour is that bullfighting is perceived as a cultural heritage, which has now gained significance for society because of the loss of traditions we are living in the present. Also, this activity provides entertainment for people. For instance, it is an activity that can be enjoyed by the entire family and can work as a source of income for others. In addition, some people say that bullfighting gives a bull a better chance at life than other animals, because they are taken care of, unlike many other animals used in the meat industry. However, there are some drawbacks in this business. First of all, it can be dangerous not only for the matador but also for the public; this sport is responsible for a lot of deaths and accidents. Furthermore, bullfighting validates animal cruelty as a way of entertainment, which is utterly unscrupulous, and promotes torture of innocent animals that suffer a long and agonizing death. Taking everything into consideration, a cultural tradition is not worthy of all the suffering and pain that these animals go through. Despite the importance of cultural preservation, it is indispensable to take into consideration the damage that this activity brings to animals and society by normalizing this act of inhumanity and aggression. That's why we get to the conclusion that bullfighting is unethical and harmful not only for animals, but also for society, because it promotes retrograde behaviors in aspects that were no longer problematic.
Lab 3. Sometimes violence is necessary /María José Campos Garay In the past, most parents punished their children physically and even the teachers utilized this method to correct misbehaviors, however in the present, the society see this as a bad way of education, and today these punishments are considered abuse or a violence act, and the most of the cases the parents can be denounced. But this topic has both positive and negative aspects. Many people consider that physical punishment is useful to teach the child what “no” means and teach them how to behave. In addition, they thing is a way to protect the child from danger situations. And to show them who has the authority, but these punishments should be subtle, such as a spanking, a slap or a pinch. However, the punishments should never go beyond because this can cause a negative impact on children, because a several treatment doesn’t promote respect, or admiration, in fact, is the opposite the child feel contempt and fear, and the most important is it doesn’t promote the desire to change, if not the desire to take revenge and the only thing that you’re doing is form a bitter and violent people not kind and correct persons. Finally, taking everything into consideration, the violence isn’t necessary in any case, the parents can find other way to correct their children and improve their behavior, maybe talk to their or teach them with the example how they are supposed to behave. Also, they can try other types of punishment that don’t involve physical pain.

Lab 3. Face to face communication is better than texting calling or emailing. Yordi Brenes and Magally Sanabria. In the next lines, the students of biotechnology (Yordi Brenes and Magally Sanabria) of the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica will debate about the use of the mass media to communicate and how it is affecting the nowadays relationships. How technology had changed the communication, had it improved it or limited it? These questions will be discussed in this text. I think the phones and the internet had improved the communication a lot, now you can talk to your friends, family or strangers even if they are far away from you. Imagine that you go to the university and do not talk to your parents until you go to home, that would be horrible! But, on the other hand, a lot of people think that the technology had moved us away from each other, people using their phones instead of talking to their friends happens frequently. However, I think phones had not changed anything, if you would like to talk to someone; the phone is not going to stop you. Not if you really want. Face to face communication cannot be compared in any aspect to an online conversation. When you are watching other people’s faces, you can interact with them in a better way. You can see their reactions at real time and try to figure out what they are thinking at the moment, something that would be impossible on an online chat. Even though a text, a call or an email allow you to transmit your message in a faster way, you lose many valuable details that you can find easily in a face to face communication. We can’t deny that technology has had an excellent impact on our daily chores. It helps to make our life easier and easier every day, but that good help may become into something disadvantageous if you use it in an inappropriate way. Try to keep human contact as much as possible, because it is the basis of human relationships.
Lab 3|School uniforms are good|Erick Cortés C. Amanda Carvajal Most schools in Costa Rica count with an uniform for their students. While some of them hate being forced to use an uniform, others find it helpful and necessary. Both arguments have really valid points.
There are multiple advantages to using an uniform. First, it obligates all the students to dress the same. Therefore, it avoids problems such as bullying because of the way someone dresses and doesn't differentiate social classes. For example, a kid coming from a wealthy family and a poor kid will look no different in the school. Also, using a uniform unites the students. This way, it creates a sense of belonging between them.
On the other hand, the fact that all students wear the same auspicious uniform, make that they cannot express their attitudes and personalities in the best way. Although, by using "decorations" they could express their feelings, but it doesn´t create the same meaning as transmitting it completely through the way of dressing. For instance, if we wear bright colors, it means that we are outgoing people, however if it is the opposite, that we use neutral colors reflects an introverted attitude, this helps other people know how they should treat or talk to that person.
In conclusion, the way we dress shows our way of being, as well as the way we treat other people. However, this way of expressing ourselves is altered by school uniforms, although the use of them, encourages greater tolerance and acceptance by the school community, including friends or the family of the student.

Nowadays, the use of electronic devices became an easier way to exchange people’s ideas. We can text, email or call someone right in the moment we want to talk to them or we can just simply meet them as normally. First of all, it is worth considering the pros of face-to-face communication. One of them is that trough this type of communication it’s easier to create empathy and deeper connection than if you text, call or email someone. For instance, when you are having a conversation through electronic devices, you could easily just communicate using a few words and images, such as gifts. On the contrary, when you find yourself eye-to-eye with someone else, people are able to use gestures or personal cues, that will help you to have a better understanding of the message. Besides, when you have direct contact with the person you are talking to, it becomes more private and intimate, while on the internet nothing is confidential. Nevertheless, texting, calling or emailing someone has its advantages too. Firstly, you deliver your message instantly, it is not necessary to arrange a meeting with someone, you could just send them a text with the information you want them to know, therefore, this type of communication is quicker and more effective. Besides, because of the global impact of the internet, you could get in touch with relatives or friends that are far away, this method saves you a lot of money and helps you to maintain relationships with someone who is not physically present. Although both have their advantages, face-to-face communication will always be the most efficient way to communicate and know what people really mean because you can see the other´s behavior and get a direct response immediately. People need eye contact and body language to express themselves better.

Nowadays, it is very common to use technology for everything for calling a friend, to share a picture, sometimes to express your feelings, but there is a moment where the only thing you see it is the screen of your cellphone or the screen of your computer every day, that in somehow helps us to many things but sometimes it doesn’t like communicating it seems like it has change a lot in that aspect. The technology can be need it when you are looking for some information, or when you are read an online book, to make a homework. It is very easy to do those things. For example, when you want to look for information you just go to an online page, read and take the things you need for your work, before that you looked for a book with the related topic, so simple. On the other hand, not everything is advantageous in the world of technology, because when we are talking about communicating is another thing. Now technology is involved in communication with social media and we can text or make a video called a friend in WhatsApp or Instagram. We change things like going for a cup of coffee and talking for hours. Why is that so different from texting or calling? In simple words doesn’t feel the same when you have a face to face communicating, In conclusion, communicating it is something we need everyday technology makes the process much easier however face to face communicating you feel more welcoming and more supported.

In the last years technology have an important part of everyone’s lives. To work, to study or just as an entertainment, technology is, nowadays, a source of knowledge. For the young people, this tool is used specially with fun purposes, using what we call as videogames. However, there is a big discussion around the consequences that these games bring for kids and teenager. This because most of the videogames are based on war or violence environment. But this can not be totally true. Currently, kids are more susceptible and sensible more violence than in the past. For example, everyone has heard about bullying, and most of us have suffer because of that. If we analyze some famous video games, such as Fortnite, we see how the violence is show as something normal and as a way to achieve great goals on our daily lives. And, as a consequence, this is the aspect that games should teach to young people, specially because in younger ages, people learn from everything they see and they cannot understand if it is correct or not, they just see is as normal. On the other hand, there are many cases in witch videogames are a way to connect with people, from other countries or even with your family. Besides, not all are violent, there are a lot of them that are with a temathic of adventure, roles, story, creativity, and a lot more. They are made to entertain people. Even if it is violent, the people playing are aware that what they are “killing” is just a simulation. In conclusion, there are video games that indeed are violent, but, this doesn’t make them dangerous. They have a good side, bonding people together around the world and giving us entertainment.
