  3. The New Year's Eve is an international celebration in which the farewell of a year and the arrival of a new one are celebrated. The New Year's Eve is a very emotional world holiday, every family and culture celebrates it different, with different rituals and traditions, but with the same feeling of happiness. It is celebrated on December 31 st, all people are in expectation of the January first to celebrate New Year. New Year's Eve is celebrated with social and family meetings that take place at night, where people dance, eat, and enjoy amazing fireworks to celebrate the New Year.

  4. The New Year's date is a cloudy time for the world, you feel anxiety and emotions for a new beginning, new opportunities and attitudes. Many take the change of year to dismiss and let go everything that afflicts and does wrong and to set personal goals in order to make each year better. Families usually meet and enjoy a pleasant moment while they talk, dance and sing. They also usually prepare their favorite foods. There are certain traditions according to the cultures that families do because they believe they are good luck.

For example, families in Brazil have the tradition of jumping seven waves of the sea at midnight and at the same time asking for 7 wishes; another example is to receive the New Year eating 12 grapes, this represents twelve months full of happiness and prosperity. This is practiced in Spain and in Costa Rica. Around the world there are many traditions, beliefs, customs, and different ways of receiving the New Year. But what is characteristic throughout the world is to receive the year sharing time with family full of love, happiness and wanting to start a very successful New Year.

  8. The first celebration of the Mother’s Day was in Antigua Grecias in honor to Rea, the mother of the gods. Then, from there in forward differents cultures and religions were adapting them to be know as today.

  9. This holiday is celebrated around the world on different dates. For example: here in Costa Rica we celebrated on August 15th , United States, Canadá and Brazil celebrated on the second Sunday of May and Mexico on May 10th

    There are many ways to celebrate this day, depending on the country. Most people give gifts and prepared a special meal. But what mothers really value is to receive the love and spend time with the family. Mothers deserve the best for the great effort they put into each of the homes. So it is very important to thank mothers for their love every day, not only Mother's Day.

  10. CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY


    The Christmas is one of the Best known holidays in the world, This is why we’re going to talk a Little about this celebration, this holiday is celebrated by the birth of Jesus. It is usually celebrated on December 25, but there are families that celebrate it on the 24th, Christmas is a time of celebration throughout the world, when gifts are shared with loved ones, and the most diverse celebrations are held. In our Latin countries there are other celebrations for these same dates: inns, end of year meetings, etc.

    Christmas is one of the best holidays in the world. There are few countries that don't celebrate this holiday; although there are countries like Costa Rica that we celebrate and love Christmas, it's truly unique for us, and we usually try to spend time with our family, and we have some traditions like: gifts, eat "tamales," pine trees and decorations; these things make Christmas really special. Christmas tree, stars, Christmas crib, bells and Christmas carols are Christmas' symbols. When Christmas arrives, everyone starts to run in order to buy everything to decorate their houses, buy gifts and ingredients.
    Christmas is a magical holiday that can inspire people. Fireworks are a way to celebrate Christmas, and almost everyone loves them. Some people on Christmas try to be better, kind and to leave their differences behind. On Christmas, people try to share more their values. They try to expand love and respect with others. However, we should act like this every day of our lives in order to be happier and enjoy more everything about our lives.

  12. Although Christmas has different meanings and celebrations according to each culture. We will focus on how Latinos celebrate Christmas.

    The main meaning is the birthday of Jesus, however due to the Anglo-America influence, many families decorate their houses with ornaments alluding to Father Christmas.

    Usually, families put a natural or artificial pine tree in the living room. It is decorated with balls, lights, stars and other original figures.

    Some families put a Christmas crib under the Christmas tree. The reason of the Christmas crib is to represent the birth of Jesus.

    People know that they are in Christmas, when they see many lights around them.

    The bells sound is the Christmas symbolic sound. The people relate the bell sound as the sign of the birth of Christ.

    Additional the Christmas carols represent the Christmas music.

    The Christmas carols are songs with lyrics associated with Christmas. In christmas, it’s heard everywhere.

    The Christmas carols are songs with lyrics associated with Christmas, so on this holiday we can hear them everywhere.

    When talking about the Christmas smell, the christmas characteristic smell is a pine, although some people say that Christmas smells like apple and cinnamon.

    Christmas is a special date in which families enjoy sharing time together.

    In the Christmas night, families give each other gifts. Some families put the gifts under the Christmas tree. In this night, families share a dinner together.

    In this holiday, people usually eat tamales, turkeys, pozole, pork legs, apple, grapes and other meals. The meals are accompanied with wine, beers and traditional drinks like egg nuts.


    Christmas is a time where values ​​such as love, peace, respect are shared.

  16. That's the history but actually, Valentines Day is celebrated by different kinds of people. There`s people who use this holiday to conquer the heart of the person they like, others buy expensive gifts to their loved ones thinking it`s a good way to show affection. There is also the people that take advantage of this holiday to earn more money by selling roses, chocolates and red decorations such as balloons and ribbons.

  17. Halloween

    On October 31 is celebrated one of the most controversial festivities, mainly because of its relationship with religion. Halloween or as it is also known, "Night of witches". Which is celebrated mainly by countries like the United States, Mexico and some Latin American countries. Its celebration has two roots, the "Samhain", which means "end of summer", of the Celtic culture and the "The day of all the saints", of the Christians. Around the 43 years, this festival was included in the Roman culture, although it was already celebrated in the months of October and November, only that it was known as "Harvest Festival", time after the two traditions were mixed.

  19. The celebration consist about a group of people that were dressed by a scary character. Each one knock the door of neighborhood telling the phrase "Trick or track". Then when they open the door the person offer candies. All the people go around the neighborhood. Here in Costa Rica this holiday is not very common to celebrate, but in some places they meet to celebrate as in bars. To finish this a little bit what they do in Halloween and about the history.

    The holy week, for the catholics is the week that we remember the last Jesus week on the earth, it is the most important week for the catholics, its commemorate the passion and resurrection of Jesus. Now a lot of people look this week like a time for resting or for traveling. The real escense of this week have changed in the culture of our country. I remember in my town all the people participating in holy week activities and focus this week for meditading in a family time.

  21. You can also see the people participating in the processions that shows in some way how was all what Jesus suffer, but not in the hard way it was, it's more respectful and they give him the treat that he really deserved.
    In conclusion, have the chance of celebrating this whole week the sacrifice of Jesus is very important for the catholic people and all the believers that Jesus Christ lived and died to forgive all our sins. But also, if you don't believe in this you can enjoy the free days to travel, being with your family and rest.

September 15 is a very important date for all Costa Ricans since Independence Day is celebrated.Before Costa Rica was an independent country it belonged to the Spanish territory and was controlled by the General Captaincy of Guatemala, when it took the decision to become independent in 1821 the independence of Costa Rica was also declared. Although the day of independence is celebrated on September 15 officially Costa Rica was independent until October 29, 1821.

  23. Every 15th of September people from Costa Rica celebrate their independance day. They usually make a parades of bands around the country, in this parades many people go to look many bands, their clothes, their music and also de different instruments that they play.
    Costa Rica always begin the celebration with a civic act and there the national anthem is sung and then they make different activities such as typical dances, traditional games.
    In Costa Rica we find a typical dress that consists of a colorful dress for women and a simple suit for men. It is also a tradition that people decorate their homes with flags, shields, national emblems and other items that distinguish them as Costa Ricans proud of their people

The most important thing on Independence Day is the commemoration of the emancipation of Costa Rica, is common enjoy the Costa Rican civic party with parades, civic acts and other activities alluding to this celebration. This holiday celebrated that Costa Rica is a sovereign, free and independent country since 1821, it is nice to know that this country is a pacifist nation where year after year the cry of independence is celebrated with songs, dances and parades.
